Client Spotlight: Covenant Bible Study
By Kristen ShoatesCovenant is an in-depth group Bible study in which participants read and discuss the Bible together, learning how to love God—and each other—better. It was created and published by the United Methodist Publishing House to equip churches with a resource to encourage discipleship and Bible study through small groups in their congregations. The study features discussions with top theologians and allows leaders to log in to manage their groups and access resources.
UMPH reached out to us for help developing a more user-focused site with a strategic flow that would allow users to easily understand what the study offered and how to use it. Our team worked closely together to consider the client's end goals and the user's experience, building content, structure and design to accomplish a specific, strategic purpose.
First, we began with an audit of Covenant's existing site. Rather than just creating a visually attractive site, we got a team of designers, content writers and project managers together in a room to offer their perspectives and gauge the experience of real potential users. This helped us figure out what was working and what wasn't working and inform the design with real feedback.
The design of the site was very deliberate, built to walk the user through a process that ultimately encourages them to purchase the study. The home page features clear content blocks with plenty of white space to draw attention to what we wanted the user to do, and each piece of content flows logically to build upon previous content and gradually give more information about the study. Visually, the design honors the significance of the new study, uses strong imagery such as the table and provides clear calls to action in context.
In the end, UMPH got a great-looking site that is about much more than pretty visuals. It is design rooted in strategy and functionality, focused on accomplishing a purpose and helping the client meet their end goals.
Kudos to UMPH for creating a great Bible study, paying attention the user experience and knowing when to seek help from a partner. The Covenant site represents true teamwork with great results.
